Fading Flesh and Glory

“For all flesh is as grass, and all the glory of man as the flower of grass. The grass withereth, and the flower thereof falleth away: But the word of the Lord endureth for ever. And this is the word which by the gospel is preached unto you.” (1 Peter 1:24-25)

I found this to be a fitting verse for the start of the new year because it puts an understanding behind ones goals and approach in life. Giving an understanding that the things of this world are only temporary, whether it be your body or fleeting worldly ambitions and triumphs. So you have to wonder what real value any of those things hold to you once they end.

This is where the hope in Jesus Christ shines its light. Not only does accepting the gift of salvation earn you the gift of eternal life, but surrendering yourself and allowing the Holy Spirit to work within your life to produce godly thoughts, actions and speech will give you goals that willingly glorifies the Lord and lays more treasures in your heavenly home where moth and rust cannot touch. I am by no means saying you can earn your way to heaven. The desire to glorify God in life is something that only comes from a true acceptance of Jesus Christ.
Is it not better to strive for goals that will gain treasures that are eternal rather than temporal? Food for thought while making those New Years resolutions.
