Have you misplaced Christ?

Have you ever had those moments when you really needed something but couldn’t find it? As I was packing away the final essentials in preparation for my trip tomorrow, I had one of those moments. I ended up turning my room upside-down looking for this one item and when it seemed I would never be able to find it, the said item eventually was found in a place where I would have never thought to look. (Let’s just say that it made me realize that I needed to really tidy up my room…)
But like my situation, how many times do we “misplace” our relationship with God? For those who have realized the wonderful gift of salvation through Jesus Christ, after a while they sometimes put it somewhere where they think is safe; yet they end up forgetting about it through the clutter of their daily life until they are in desperate need of it.

“If we have forgotten the name of our God, or stretched out our hands to a strange god; Shall not God search this out? for he knoweth the secrets of the heart.” (Psalm 44:20-21)

How can we ever treat our relationship with Christ like a misplaced item in the room of our lives? It is neither something that should be taken for granted or to be seen as a magic lamp which gives us access to God when it is convenient to us. It should be a relationship built on love and full dependency on Christ, which we are to constantly seek in all aspects of our lives.

“Seek the LORD, and his strength: seek his face evermore.” (Psalm 105:4)

In another perspective, for those who do not have that relationship with God, they frantically search for meaning and fulfillment in their lives; yet they cannot find it because they are looking for it in places that are conventional to this world and not in the “place where they would have never thought to look”. Or rather it is in a place where they refuse to look. But that meaningful hope they seek is still within reach if they only were willing to find it.

“But rather seek ye the kingdom of God; and all these things shall be added unto you.” (Luke 12:31)

In both aspects, people put God in a place that is convenient to them. Whether it be on a shelf to occasionally call upon or locked away where they do not wish to see Him. Isn’t it a sad thought to think that the God of all creation, is seen as just another item that can easily be misplaced in the room of our lives? Have you taken God for granted in your life? I pray that you may find that desire to seek after God in everything, not just when it is convenient to you.
