The fear of silence

“The fear of man bringeth a snare: but whoso putteth his trust in the Lord shall be safe.” (Proverbs 29:25)

This verse struck me in my daily reading today. The fact that fear paralyzes people is not a surprise for anyone, but have you ever wondered how to overcome that fear? For the most fearful of things, people tend to run away from it rather than wanting to face it. Despite our false front of trying to prove we are strong on our own, we are in fact cowards in the very end and even more so when we cannot admit to this fact.
This convicted me because it had me wondering; do I fear others when I should be sharing to them the good news of Christ? I can easily say it’s because I’m shy and don’t want to push on the subject, but in reality I’m just running away from the situation. What a horrible attitude towards something that is vitally important for others to know. It shows my lack of love for others when I keep silent about Christ’s salvation for them because it shows I care more about what others may do to me rather than their eternal well-being.
Which is why I truly cannot rely on my own strength and know that God is the only one who can give me the boldness and strength to face my fears. Only with prayer and giving one’s self so that the Holy Spirit can move in one’s life will the fear of the things of this world become shadows. So I pray and echo David’s psalm as a reminder to myself and all Christians who maybe convicted of this same situation:

“The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? the Lord is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?” (Psalm 27:1)
