I’ve never been one to remember details easily. I’d probably forget your name if not repeated at least 10 times, and would get you lost if you were to ask me whether to drive north or south to get to my house. Numbers seem like blurry figures (despite my Chinese background) and it would be a feat on its own if I could recall the last tv show I watched if you were to ask me 5 minutes after I’ve watched it. You can probably describe my recollection ability to be liken to a goldfish (whether their memories really are that short is another story).
But let’s face it, we are all forgetful creatures. Whether we want to admit it or not, our memories fade in the same manner as our bodies. We forget about those around us when we think of ourselves; we forget about the abundance that we have when we don’t get what we want; we forget there is a purpose for all things when things don’t go the way we plan them; we forget that we were given life and all things in it as a bless when we fail to remember the God who created all things good and just. In all aspects, we forget the God who created us and repay Him with ungratefulness as we sin against Him every day. Truly we are forgetful people…
“He is the LORD our God: his judgments are in all the earth. He hath remembered his covenant for ever, the word which he commanded to a thousand generations.” (Psalm 105:8-9)
Yet despite our poor memories, is it not an assurance that God never forgets about us? Whether it be the promises He makes or each individual person, He knows the ins and outs of all of creation being the creator, and is always faithful to keep all His promises.
“Bless the LORD, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits:
Who forgiveth all thine iniquities; who healeth all thy diseases; Who redeemeth thy life from destruction; who crowneth thee with lovingkindness and tender mercies; Who satisfieth thy mouth with good things; so that thy youth is renewed like the eagle’s.” (Psalm 103: 2-5)
For us, who constantly forget and will never know every aspect of one another or this world, is it not logical enough to believe and trust in The One who does?
